A mum from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, feels profoundly cheated after the man who nearly killed her died before facing sentencing. Lynn Carrington, 60, was stabbed by her ex-partner, Lloyd Brian Twells, 67, in June of the previous year. The vicious attack left her losing 2.7 litres of blood, requiring 14 hours of surgery to save her life.
Twells was convicted of attempted murder in December. However, he passed away from bladder cancer while in custody, just a week before his scheduled sentencing. This premature death has left Lynn feeling betrayed and without closure, as she believes he has escaped true accountability.
Lynn recalled the terrifying incident, describing how Twells chased her through her home and repeatedly attacked her. She sustained a deep cut on her neck and also injured her hand while fighting for her life. The trauma has caused her significant mental distress, including frequent flashbacks and tearfulness.
Medics later informed Lynn that she would have died had she lost just another 300 millilitres of blood. She continues to experience lingering physical effects, such as numbness in her thumb and a visible scar. The event has had a lasting impact on her well-being and has left her with a need for ongoing medical monitoring.
