Tragedy struck in Fort Kochi on Saturday evening when a 78-year-old woman, Lakshmi Velayudhan, was allegedly killed by her son. The incident, which occurred around 6:50 pm, reportedly stemmed from an argument over money for alcohol.
According to police reports, the woman's 52-year-old son, Kannan, assaulted her after she refused his demand for money and allegedly became upset that she had given a gas cylinder to his brother. The woman sustained severe injuries, including being hit and kicked, and was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to her injuries.
Fort Kochi police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder based on the statement of the deceased's daughter. The accused, Kannan, was apprehended, produced in court, and subsequently remanded in judicial custody. An autopsy was performed, and the body was handed over to the family.
