22 Feb
Summary
- Son bludgeoned mother to death with a hammer in December 2020.
- He lived with her body for two months, concealing the crime.
- Lockdown restrictions aided the son in hiding his mother's death.

In December 2020, Judith Rhead, a 68-year-old known as the "karaoke queen," was brutally murdered by her son, Dale Morgan. Morgan bludgeoned his mother with a hammer in her Pembroke Dock flat. He then lived with her body for approximately two months, with her remains discovered in February 2021 after a neighbor raised concerns.
Forensic evidence, including a defensive wound on Judith's hand and the hammer found at the scene, pointed to Morgan. Her body's condition suggested it had been left for an extended period. Judith's diary revealed Morgan had been abusing her prescription medication and exploiting her financially. Morgan eventually surrendered to police and admitted to the killing.
Morgan, who had become Judith's carer during the Covid pandemic, was described as having struggled with mental health and drug abuse. He was jailed for a minimum of 21 years and six months in October 2021 for the "savage and sustained attack" on his mother, who had doted on him.
