Nada Huranieh was discovered deceased outside her Farmington Hills home in August 2017, initially presumed to have fallen from an upstairs window. However, medical examination revealed signs of blunt force trauma and asphyxiation, indicating foul play rather than suicide or accident. Surveillance footage captured a suspicious figure near the window shortly before her death.
Authorities identified Huranieh's then 16-year-old son, Muhammad, as the prime suspect. Evidence suggested his anger over his mother's divorce from his father, Bassel Altantawi, as a motive. Prosecutors alleged Muhammad smothered his mother before pushing her body out the window to stage the scene.
Muhammad maintained his innocence throughout the trial, which concluded in September 2022. He was ultimately found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder and received a sentence of 35 to 60 years in prison. As of December 2025, he is serving his sentence in Michigan.
