A 60-year-old man, Johny, was arrested on Wednesday by Cantonment police for allegedly attempting to murder his 82-year-old mother. The violent incident occurred on Monday evening at their residence in Vanchiyoor, Thiruvananthapuram.
During a verbal altercation, Johny reportedly attacked his mother, Selvi, with a sharp weapon, causing severe injuries. She was rushed to the medical college hospital and is currently in the ICU in critical condition.
Following the attack on his mother, Johny allegedly attempted suicide by cutting his own neck. He is also receiving treatment at the same hospital, with the police maintaining observation over him.
Authorities have stated that Johny has prior cases registered against him at the Cantonment police station, including charges for public nuisance and assault.
