Heartbroken Soldier's Fatal Crash
24 Feb
Summary
- Soldier spoke to girlfriend during fatal 80mph crash.
- Inquest revealed chaotic relationship before death.
- Alcohol and mental health issues were factors.

A British soldier tragically lost his life after deliberately driving his car into a tree at up to 80mph, while speaking to his girlfriend on the phone. Joshua Parsons, 26, a signaller, died on June 9, 2024, from catastrophic injuries sustained in the crash.
An inquest revealed that Parsons and his partner, Georgia Clements, had an 'on-off relationship' characterized by 'chaotic and inconsistent' communication. Earlier in February 2024, an incident occurred where Parsons reportedly tried to stab himself, leading to him being restrained by his family.
Following the February incident, a Ministry of Defence GP noted Parsons had thoughts of being better off dead. He was placed on a Care Action Plan, but wished for his family not to be informed. Despite showing improvement, a tension around his commitment to the Army was noted.
