24 Nov
Summary
- Two 12-year-old girls attacked a classmate to appease Slender Man.
- Both attackers were found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
- One attacker recently escaped a group home and was later re-apprehended.

In 2014, a chilling incident unfolded when two 12-year-old friends, Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, attacked their classmate, Payton Leutner. Motivated by a shared obsession with the internet legend Slender Man, they believed their act would make them proxies for the fictional character. The brutal stabbing left Leutner with 19 wounds but she remarkably survived.
Following their arrest, both Geyser and Weier faced legal proceedings. Their defense successfully argued they were not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. As a result, they were committed to psychiatric facilities, with Weier sentenced to a maximum of 25 years and Geyser to 40 years.
Recent developments reveal Weier's conditional release in September 2021, requiring strict monitoring. Geyser, initially released to a group home in January 2025, made headlines again in November 2025 after escaping her facility and being apprehended nearly 200 miles away.
