Slender Man Stabber Seeks Release Again
26 Aug
Summary
- Morgan Geyser seeks conditional release months after escaping a group home.
- Her prior conditional release was revoked after she removed her monitoring bracelet.
- Geyser was found not guilty by reason of mental disorder for the 2014 stabbing.

Morgan Geyser, who was convicted for a 2014 stabbing motivated by the fictional Slender Man, has filed a new petition for conditional release. This filing occurred on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The court is expected to appoint an examiner within 20 days to assess her and submit a report within 30 days of appointment.
The petition follows the revocation of Geyser's conditional release. Granted in January 2025 from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, she was placed in a group home. However, in November 2025, she removed her monitoring bracelet and escaped, only to be recaptured the next day. Her release was subsequently revoked in December 2025.
Geyser and her co-defendant Anissa Weier, both 12 at the time, lured their classmate Payton Leutner into the woods in May 2014. Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times in an attempt to appease Slender Man. Leutner survived the attack and managed to reach a bike path.
Despite pleading guilty to attempted homicide in October 2017, Geyser was found not guilty by reason of mental disorder and sentenced to 40 years in a psychiatric hospital. Weier, meanwhile, was granted conditional release in 2021.
