In a significant bust late Saturday, the forest department in Farrukhabad arrested six individuals for the illegal hunting of two nilgais in Rohilla village, located under the Mohammadabad police station area. Five of the apprehended poachers were residents of Firozabad district, while one was from the Mohammadabad police station area.
Authorities received a tip about the poaching activity, leading to a swift raid by a team of forest range officers. The hunters were reportedly in the process of skinning the two nilgais and preparing to hunt a third when they were intercepted. A cache of weapons, including a gun, a knife, and a loader, along with mobile phones and two bikes, were recovered from the arrested accused.
Cases have been filed against all six under the Wildlife Protection Act. The arrested individuals were medically examined, and the carcasses of the nilgais were buried after post-mortem examinations. Forest officials noted that the accused had a history of engaging in such hunting parties, highlighting a persistent challenge in wildlife protection.
