Forensic Expert Flags Discrepancies in Custodial Death Case
11 Mar
Summary
- Post-mortem report shows inconsistencies with initial findings.
- Severe leg injuries inconsistent with alleged fall from bridge.
- Autopsy failed to follow NHRC guidelines and protocols.

Concerns have been mounting over the post-mortem report concerning R. Akash Delison, a 26-year-old Scheduled Caste individual who reportedly died in police custody in Sivaganga district.
A forensic expert has identified critical inconsistencies between the initial Medico-Legal Case report and the final autopsy. While the initial assessment suggested fat embolism, the autopsy noted no fat globules in the heart chambers. Furthermore, severe leg injuries, described as 'through and through' fractures, are deemed inconsistent with the police's explanation of a fall from a bridge.
The expert also highlighted that the autopsy failed to adhere to National Human Rights Commission guidelines mandated by the Madras High Court. Crucial details like the timing and duration of wounds, and the distinction between fresh and old injuries, were omitted. Standard protocols for identifying torture were also ignored.
Questions have also arisen regarding the timely release of the autopsy report, with a significant delay noted between the procedure's completion and the report's generation. This delay, the expert suggests, could provide an opportunity to suppress or alter findings.
