Seven months ago, Rivas' severely decomposed, dismembered body was discovered in the front trunk of an impounded Tesla owned by Burke. The initial examination was hampered by the condition of the remains, preventing determination of basic identifiers. A tattoo on her finger and an earring were noted.
Burke faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder with special circumstances such as lying in wait and financial gain. He is also charged with sexual acts with a person under 14 and mutilating remains. Rivas was reportedly a witness in an ongoing investigation into Burke for alleged lewd and lascivious sexual acts with a minor.
