Walmart Shoplifter's Gun Clicks, Foils Attack on Officer

Dramatic footage captured a tense confrontation in a Canton, Ohio, Walmart security room on Thursday, where a shoplifting suspect allegedly attempted to shoot a police officer at close range. The suspect, identified as Shane Newman, 21, reportedly drew a firearm and pulled the trigger twice, but the gun appeared to malfunction, emitting only clicking sounds.

During the critical moments, a Walmart security employee bravely intervened, jumping on Newman to restrain him. This action allowed the police officer, who had his weapon drawn, to eventually overpower and pin the suspect to the floor until backup arrived. The officer stated he hesitated to fire his own weapon, fearing he might hit the heroic employee during the struggle.

Newman was subsequently charged with attempted murder and felonious assault on a police officer. The woman he was with, Katerina Jefferey, faces charges including complicity to commit robbery and weapons charges related to ammunition possession.
