A 15-year-old student, Harvey Willgoose, was fatally stabbed at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield. The incident occurred after a social media disagreement between other students escalated. Despite immediate efforts by teachers and paramedics, Harvey was pronounced dead in hospital.
The perpetrator, Mohammed Umar Khan, also 15, was found guilty of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 16 years. A review commissioned by the school's trust revealed significant safeguarding failures, including missed opportunities to address Khan's prior investigations for carrying a knife and an axe.
Harvey's mother, Caroline Willgoose, is now campaigning for knife arches in all secondary schools and colleges. She believes carrying knives is increasingly common among children for protection, but this action puts them in greater danger. She tragically noted that Harvey had avoided school due to fears about other pupils carrying weapons.
