A man previously convicted of serious sexual offenses has received a new prison sentence for harassing and threatening his ex-partner. Craig Berry, formerly of Workington and recently of Carlisle, was handed a 15-month jail term for harassment without violence and two counts of threatening his victim with offensive weapons.
These new crimes occurred in September, during which Berry accused his former partner of infidelity and threatened him with a bat and later a hammer. He also blocked the victim's exit, stating he could not let him leave without causing harm. The court heard that Berry had been recalled to serve the remaining part of a 10-year sentence imposed in 2017 for engaging in sexual activity with a child.
Following the new convictions, Berry was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, which will run concurrently with his existing sentence. A five-year restraining order was also put in place, prohibiting any contact with the victim and restricting Berry from being within half a mile of his home. A detective had previously described Berry as a "dangerous sexual predator" who isolated his victims.
