In Uttar Pradesh, a man is facing allegations of serial marriage fraud and dowry extortion from three women he allegedly married between 2019 and 2023. The women have jointly accused Sunil Kumar, a resident of Lalitpur district, of concealing his marital status to enter into multiple marriages.
The first complainant stated her family spent approximately Rs 8 lakh on her 2019 wedding to Kumar, only for him to demand more dowry and later send divorce papers. A second marriage in 2021 reportedly involved an Rs 8 lakh expenditure by her family, followed by demands for a gold chain and motorcycle, and alleged assault.
The third woman married Kumar in 2023, with her family reportedly spending nearly Rs 8 lakh plus jewellery. She alleged harassment for more dowry, assault when three months pregnant, and subsequent abandonment. She later discovered his previous marriages.
