In Uttar Pradesh, a man is facing allegations of serial marriage fraud and dowry extortion from three women he allegedly married between 2019 and 2023. The women have jointly accused Sunil Kumar, a resident of Lalitpur district, of concealing his marital status to enter into multiple marriages.
The first complainant stated her family spent approximately Rs 8 lakh on her 2019 wedding to Kumar, only for him to demand more dowry and later send divorce papers. A second marriage in 2021 reportedly involved an Rs 8 lakh expenditure by her family, followed by demands for a gold chain and motorcycle, and alleged assault.
The third woman married Kumar in 2023, with her family reportedly spending nearly Rs 8 lakh plus jewellery. She alleged harassment for more dowry, assault when three months pregnant, and subsequent abandonment. She later discovered his previous marriages.
Following these revelations, all three women filed complaints at the SSP office in Jhansi, detailing cheating, cruelty, and multiple marriages by concealment. The police have confirmed an FIR registration and are investigating the allegations, including claims that Kumar may be preparing for a fourth marriage.
