In a tragic incident that occurred just last week, a security guard named Avtar Singh, 40, was arrested for the murder of his 70-year-old father, Buta Singh, in Rajgarh village. According to the police report, the incident took place on the night of October 27, 2025, when Avtar, who was allegedly addicted to alcohol, began fighting with his wife.
Buta Singh, the victim, had intervened to try and protect his daughter-in-law from Avtar's drunken rage. However, Avtar responded by pushing his father and then striking him on the left side of the head with a nearby brick, inflicting fatal injuries. The severely injured Buta Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Investigations revealed that Avtar Singh has a history of violence, having previously served 22 months in jail in a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder related to his uncle. The latest victim, Buta Singh, was a former member of the Punjab Home Guard and had also worked as a village watchman.
The accused and his wife have two young children, a 7-year-old son and a 9-month-old daughter, who now face the tragic consequences of their father's actions. The police have registered a murder case against Avtar Singh, and he remains in custody as the investigation continues.
