A second midwife, Jordan Michaela Holland, 28, has been charged with manslaughter after a newborn died following a home birth in the Hunter region of NSW. Holland was arrested and charged on Friday, April 10, 2026, concerning an incident on October 2, 2024. Police allege she was a privately practicing midwife at the time.
Holland appeared in bail court on Friday and was granted conditional bail. This charge comes nearly eight months after Italian-born midwife Oyebola Coxon, 36, was also charged with manslaughter. Coxon allegedly failed to act on signs of complications and the mother's requests to transfer to a hospital.
The baby was delivered via emergency caesarean on October 4, 2024, at John Hunter Hospital. Sadly, the newborn boy passed away in hospital six days later. Coxon was arrested on August 14, 2025, and faces charges including grievous bodily harm. Her trial is scheduled to commence on October 15, 2026.
