Scott Peterson, convicted in 2004 for the murders of his pregnant wife Laci and their unborn son Conner, is once again under scrutiny due to a new A&E documentary. Titled 'Scott Peterson: The New Evidence,' the two-part series, airing July 16 and 17, reportedly features previously unseen footage and handwritten notes that filmmakers believe could challenge key aspects of the original prosecution's case.
The documentary's hosts retrace Peterson's route to the Berkeley Marina, arguing it would have been highly improbable to dispose of Laci's body from his fishing boat in broad daylight without detection. They also point to findings like Laci's hair on pliers found in the boat, noting the absence of blood or tissue and the tool's apparent disuse.
Furthermore, the film explores alternative theories, including abduction, citing witness reports of a suspicious van in the Petersons' neighborhood on December 24, 2002, the day Laci disappeared. One witness allegedly saw a pregnant woman forced into the van, which was later found burned. A police dog reportedly tracked Laci's scent to the van's vicinity during the initial investigation.
Peterson, serving a life sentence in California, has consistently appealed his conviction, but courts have upheld the verdict. His former lawyer, Mark Geragos, continues to maintain Peterson's innocence, citing his decades of experience and professional intuition.
