More than a year after a teenage collegian died by suicide due to cyber fraud, the Government Railway Police (GRP) have apprehended one of the accused. Harish Meghwal, 27, was arrested from Madhya Pradesh, where he was already imprisoned for vehicle theft. The incident occurred on January 21, 2025, following which the teen's phone was analyzed.
Investigations revealed the teen was targeted in an online task fraud. Scammers contacted him on Telegram in December 2024, promising commissions for virtual ratings. He was later persuaded to invest Rs 49,000, making five UPI payments, with the final two on the day of his death. The GRP registered a case of abetment to suicide in December 2025.
Meghwal, a native of Rajasthan, was identified as a partial beneficiary of the scammed funds. He reportedly claimed to have used his bank account as a mule account after handing over his bank kit to an acquaintance. The GRP is continuing its investigation, with further arrests anticipated.
