SC Mother Sentenced for Drowning Daughter
22 Dec
Summary
- Mother sentenced to 50 years for murder of 6-year-old.
- Attempted to drown her 8-year-old daughter.
- Prosecutor stated the act was planned and not a crisis.

Jamie Michele Bradley-Brun, 40, has received a 50-year prison sentence for the murder of her 6-year-old daughter, Mackay Bradley-Brun. The sentencing follows her guilty plea to murder and the attempted murder of her 8-year-old daughter. This horrific event occurred on May 19, 2023, when Bradley-Brun drowned Mackay in a bathtub and subsequently attempted to drown her other daughter.
The younger daughter's screams alerted her older sister, who intervened and helped her escape the house to call for assistance. Responding deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office arrived at the Saint Helena Island home in the early morning hours. Prosecutors stressed that the crime was premeditated and not an accident or a consequence of a mental health crisis.
Deputy Solicitor Mary Jones stated that Bradley-Brun was competent and aware of her actions, rejecting claims of alcoholism or blame placed on others as valid defenses. The mother's sentence includes 50 years for murder and a concurrent 30-year sentence for the attempted murder, marking a grim conclusion to a planned act of violence.
