Eyewitness accounts suggest that three unidentified criminals intercepted Sharma near a local temple and opened fire, inflicting multiple serious gunshot wounds. He collapsed from his bike at the scene, and by the time concerned residents arrived, the assailants had already escaped into the darkness.
