Savile Cottage Demolition Faces Delays
11 Feb
Summary
- Demolition of Jimmy Savile's former cottage in Glen Coe is behind schedule.
- Owner cites complex approval processes and site challenges for delays.
- The site will be redeveloped as a family home honoring Dr. Hamish MacInnes.

Demolition work at Jimmy Savile's former cottage in Glen Coe is progressing slower than expected, according to the site's owners. The property, Allt-na-Reigh, owned by Savile from 1998 to 2011, has suffered vandalism and fire damage since details of his abuse emerged.
Scottish entrepreneur Harris Aslam's spokesperson stated that demolition and redevelopment cannot fully commence until a building warrant and other necessary approvals are issued. These have been delayed by the site's challenging topography, access issues, and technical building requirements.
Highland councillors approved demolition plans in June 2024, with initial work starting in March last year. The site is slated for redevelopment as a family home, which will also honor Dr. Hamish MacInnes, a celebrated Scottish climber and inventor who previously owned the cottage.
