Couple Charged After Daughter Dies in Squalid Home

A San Jose couple, Gabrielle Hanson and Jacob Randolph, face child neglect charges after their daughter, Aurora Williams, died in May. The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office announced the charges on Tuesday.

Williams was found unresponsive on May 13 after suffering a severe asthma attack. Her parents allegedly delayed seeking medical attention for eight hours, leading to her death four days later. The DA's office stated medical neglect was a significant factor in her death, which was ruled a homicide.

Investigators discovered the home on Lancelot Lane to be in a "squalid" state, with infestations of cockroaches and mold, alongside garbage and pet feces. Six other children, ranging in age from 2 months to 17 years, were present and have since been placed in protective custody.

During a previous ER visit in February, Williams reportedly showed signs of poor hygiene and malnutrition, including smelling of cat urine and appearing underweight. Her asthma equipment was later found improperly maintained, with a respiratory mask contaminated with cockroaches.

Hanson also faces additional charges related to child sexual abuse involving her brother, Jonathan Hanson, 44. The investigation into her daughter's death uncovered evidence of abuse against a victim between 11 and 15 years old. Gabrielle Hanson is accused of knowing about the abuse and failing to act.

Hanson and Randolph's next court date is November 20. Jonathan Hanson remains in custody with no bail allowed.
