Mohammad Shariful Islam, a Bangladeshi national, has once again indicated his intention to plead guilty in the case where he is accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan. This marks his second attempt to enter a guilty plea, following a rejection by a Mumbai court on September 11, 2026. The court had previously decided that Islam would face a full trial.
Islam, who is currently in judicial custody, was apprehended two days after the January 16, 2025, incident. He has been formally charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for offenses including robbery with a deadly weapon, causing grievous hurt, and house trespass. Further charges stem from violations of the Foreigners Act and Passport (Entry into India) Rules.
The court has directed prison authorities to formally communicate with the Bangladesh embassy. This move aims to facilitate Islam's contact with the embassy. The actor Saif Ali Khan was reportedly stabbed by an intruder in his Bandra apartment and underwent surgery.
