In Kanpur, a man from the Kakadeo police station area has been defrauded of Rs 9.68 lakh by cybercriminals. The victim, Gyanendra Singh, a resident of Vijay Nagar, reported receiving a WhatsApp call on December 6, 2024, from a woman identifying herself as Madhu Sharma. She promised him a Customer Service Point (CSP) licence.
Sharma allegedly sent Singh QR codes and convinced him to transfer more than Rs 3 lakh in various installments. The money was requested through payment methods like APS Payout and DMT Wallet. After realizing he had been scammed, Singh filed a report on an online cyber portal in January 2025 and subsequently approached the police.
The Inspector of Kakadeo police station, Rajesh Kumar Sharma, confirmed that a report has been registered against Madhu Sharma and Suraj under the IT Act. The police are collaborating with the cyber cell to apprehend the culprits involved in this elaborate fraud.
