In Kozhikode, members of a special investigation team from Palakkad encountered a violent ambush on Saturday morning. While attempting to apprehend suspects at a rental villa in Peruvayal, the officers were attacked with high-intensity firecrackers and a firearm. This violent resistance resulted in injuries to at least four police personnel.
The police unit had zeroed in on the hideout based on location-tracking data, as part of an ongoing investigation into the high-profile kidnapping of an expatriate entrepreneur. The victim was allegedly held for a ransom demand of Rs 70 crore.
Following the initial confrontation, backup units from the Mavoor police station arrived at the scene. Five individuals present at the villa—identified as Vishnu, Salman, Shameer (also known as 'Aadu' Shameer), David, and Jackson—were apprehended. These individuals have since been arrested.
Forensic teams have collected evidence from the site, including remnants of the exploded materials for detailed analysis. Authorities are also conducting an extensive investigation to determine the origin of the illicit firearm used in the attack.
