Over Rs 2 crore worth of precious jewellery has reportedly been stolen from Kowdiar Palace, the official residence of the Travancore royal family in Thiruvananthapuram.
A formal theft case has been registered by the Peroorkada police following a complaint filed by senior family member Aswathi Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bai.
The missing ornaments, which include unique gold chains and anklets with distinctive designs, were allegedly kept in an iron cupboard within the complainant's bedroom. The family initially believed the items had been misplaced.
Authorities suspect the theft occurred between October and November of 2025. Investigations are ongoing, with police considering the possibility that individuals with knowledge of the palace's layout and routines may be involved. The emergence of videos showcasing the palace's interiors on social media has also raised concerns, suggesting potential unauthorized access.
Further investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators and recover the stolen valuables.
