They stopped a private SUV that was found to be carrying banned gutka, pan masala, and scented tobacco.
During the search, officials discovered and seized various banned tobacco products, including saffron-flavoured pan masala, black pan masala, white mishri, re-tobacco, and tobacco pouches. The total value of the seized tobacco products amounted to approximately Rs 18 lakh. The vehicle used for the transportation, valued at Rs 10 lakh, was also impounded.
A case has been registered at Hingoli rural police station against the accused. They face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The FDA emphasized the severe health risks associated with consuming banned tobacco products and urged citizens to report any illegal sales or transportation. Enforcement activities will continue across the district.
