Drug Syndicate Busted: International Smugglers Nabbed

Authorities in Kochi have dismantled an international drug trafficking network with the arrest of five key individuals involved in the smuggling of hybrid cannabis. The operation, centered on uncovering drug distribution channels both domestically and abroad, resulted in the seizure of contraband valued at Rs 18 crore. This significant haul is considered one of the largest in the rural district's history.

The investigation revealed that the syndicate procured hybrid cannabis from Thailand, utilizing agents who were provided with necessary travel documents and financial incentives. These agents would then transport the drugs into Kerala, where the collected substance was subsequently distributed.

As part of the broader 'Operation Toofan,' nearly 18kg of hybrid cannabis was also confiscated. Earlier arrests in this operation included Ayush and his wife Anika, apprehended with substantial quantities of the drug. The main accused, Abu Tahir, was specifically detained by police in Bengaluru, highlighting the extensive reach of the network.
