  • A man was arrested near Dholera under the BNSS provisions.

The State Monitoring Cell (SMC) in Gujarat apprehended an individual near Dholera, seizing suspected ambergris worth Rs 1 crore. The arrest was made under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Officers raided Raj Chamunda Hotel near Pipli village, recovering five solid pieces of a substance believed to be ambergris. The recovered material, weighing 1.01 kg, was preliminarily confirmed as ambergris by forest department and FSL officials, with an estimated value of Rs 1 crore.

The arrested man, Mehul Vikrambhai Chauhan, reportedly stated he received the ambergris two months ago from Pavan Koli of Bhavnagar and was transporting it to buyers. He claimed he was instructed to store the contraband for a commission and was expected to hand it over to purchasers when apprehended.

A rare waxy substance produced by sperm whales, ambergris is highly sought after in the global perfume market for its ability to prolong fragrances. Its trade is subject to regulations under wildlife protection laws.
