Fake Doctors Busted: RMC Registrar Arrested in Massive Scam
26 Mar
Summary
- RMC registrar and nodal officer arrested for faking FMGE certificates.
- An organized syndicate facilitated illegal registrations for Rs 20-25 lakh.
- Over 90 potentially unqualified doctors identified, raising patient safety concerns.

Rajasthan's Special Operations Group (SOG) has arrested 18 individuals, including a former registrar of the Rajasthan Medical Council (RMC), for their alleged involvement in a large-scale racket. This syndicate used forged Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) certificates to illegally register and place unqualified candidates in hospitals across India.
The investigation, which involved raids in 22 cities, identified former RMC registrar Dr. Rajesh Sharma and nodal officer Akhilesh Mathur as key figures. Fifteen candidates who obtained medical degrees abroad but failed the mandatory FMGE exams were also apprehended. These individuals bypassed essential verification checks by using fake certificates to obtain provisional registrations and internships.
This operation follows an earlier breakthrough in December last year when three fake doctors were arrested for similar offenses. The probe has since expanded, revealing an organized syndicate that allegedly colluded with council officials. Preliminary findings indicate candidates paid between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 25 lakh, with a significant portion allegedly going to RMC officials and staff.
Investigators have uncovered evidence of systemic manipulation in the registration process, with over 90 doctors potentially having used forged documents. One accused doctor was found working in a private hospital in Udaipur with a fake certificate. The racket first came to light in October 2024, leading to an inquiry committee and Dr. Sharma's suspension. The investigation is ongoing, with further arrests anticipated.
