Caught on Camera: Thugs Wield Hammer in Richmond Robbery
1 Feb
Summary
- Two men used a large hammer to break into a Richmond jewellers.
- Staff bravely attempted to fend off the hammer-wielding robbers.
- This follows a similar jeweller heist in Shepherds Bush last Thursday.

In a brazen daytime attack, two men armed with a large hammer targeted Gregory & Co., a family-run jewellers in Richmond, west London. Onlooker footage captured the moment the assailants smashed the shop's window display, rapidly filling a bag with stolen items. Staff inside bravely attempted to confront and deter the thieves, but the robbers ultimately fled the scene.
This incident is the latest in a string of similar heists targeting jewellers across the capital. Just last Thursday, Sultan Jewellers in Shepherds Bush suffered a similar fate, with multiple assailants using a sledgehammer. Police responded swiftly, arriving within three minutes, but were threatened with a hammer as the suspects fled on mopeds. One 33-year-old man was arrested for aggravated burglary and remains in custody, though others escaped.
The Shepherds Bush robbery was eerily similar to a 2019 incident where three robbers, one armed with a sledgehammer, smashed into the shop. In that instance, bystanders intervened and restrained one of the fleeing suspects. That individual was later sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in the robbery.
