Summary
- Mumbai court defroze Rhea Chakraborty's family bank accounts.
- NCB had frozen accounts during the 2020 Sushant Singh Rajput death probe.
- Court cited NCB's failure to follow NDPS Act for timely confirmation.

A special court in Mumbai has permitted the defreezing of several bank accounts associated with Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty, and their mother Sandhya Chakraborty. These accounts were initially frozen by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in 2020 as part of the investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Although some accounts were released earlier, the family recently sought access to additional accounts held with ICICI, Axis, and Kotak banks. Their plea argued that the NCB had not complied with Section 68F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which mandates timely confirmation of freezing orders by a Competent Authority.
The court, presided over by special judge UC Deshmukh, noted the NCB's admitted non-compliance with the procedural requirements under the NDPS Act. Citing legal provisions, the judge observed that such freezing orders must be confirmed within 30 days to remain valid, thus allowing the application.
Rhea Chakraborty is also preparing for a professional comeback in an upcoming series by filmmaker Hansal Mehta. She spoke of the significant support from close friends, particularly highlighting singer-actor Shibani Dandekar, who faced professional risks for standing by her. Chakraborty expressed gratitude for the positive human connections she experienced during a challenging period.
