On October 9th, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded in Jaipur, India, where a retired bank employee, his wife, and their son were found dead in their rented accommodation. According to the police, the deaths are suspected to be a case of suicide by poisoning.
The deceased have been identified as Rupendra Sharma (63), a retired bank accountant, his wife Sushila Sharma (58), and their son Pulkit Sharma (32). The family had been living in the house for the past two years.
The police received a call from the landlord around 8 AM on the morning of October 9th, reporting that the family had not opened the front door by that time, which was unusual. Upon investigation, the police found the main gate locked from the outside, while a mesh door was fastened from the inside. After breaking the lock, the officers discovered the son's body behind the main gate, Rupendra's body in the hallway, and Sushila's body in a room further inside.
A one-page suicide note written in English was recovered from a table, which police said names and accuses a relative of grabbing a plot of land from Rupendra. The police have not revealed the name of the relative, citing an ongoing investigation.
Three glasses containing a white powdery substance were recovered from the house, and some leftover food was found in a vessel from the courtyard, suggesting the possibility of poisoning. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was on the spot to collect these and other evidence from the scene.
Neighbors described Rupendra as a disciplined individual who would wake up at 5 AM every day to clean and fetch water. The landlord expressed suspicion when the front door remained closed until 8 AM, which was uncharacteristic of the family's routine.
The bodies have been handed over to the relatives after post-mortem examinations, and the police are continuing their investigation to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
