On October 23, 2025, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Superintendent of Police (SP) Adeel Akbar tragically passed away after sustaining critical injuries from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot near Serena Chowk in the Federal capital. Akbar, a respected officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), was rushed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where he succumbed to his injuries.
Akbar had recently assumed charge as SP Industrial Area Islamabad. He held an MPhil in Governance and Public Policy from the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, and had previously served in several districts of Balochistan, where he gained significant experience in security management, community policing, human rights protection, counterterrorism, and crisis response. Akbar was known among colleagues for his professionalism, humility, and commitment to public service.
The tragic incident has deeply saddened officers across the ICT Police and the wider law enforcement community. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding Akbar's death, which is being handled with utmost sensitivity.
