Repeat Offender Arrested for Stealing Autorickshaw Driver's Phone

On November 11, 2025, two men were arrested by the Bangur Nagar Police in Mumbai for stealing an autorickshaw driver's mobile phone. The accused, Sohail Khan (26) and Sandeep Mohite (36), both live in the Bhagat Singh Nagar slum in Goregaon West and are currently unemployed.
The theft occurred around 12:30 AM on Link Road, Goregaon West, near the slum colony. The 44-year-old autorickshaw driver, Manoj Sav, had his Rs 6,000 phone secured to the steering with a rubber band for navigation purposes. The duo stole the device while Sav was waiting for passengers in his vehicle.
Investigations revealed that Mohite has a long criminal history, with 22 previous cases registered at various police stations. He has also been externed from the city limits by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sandeep Jadhav. Khan has two prior offences on his record as well.
With the arrests, the police were able to recover two stolen phones worth a total of Rs 11,000. The incident highlights the vulnerability of autorickshaw drivers and the need for better security measures to protect their belongings while on the job.
