20 Aug
Summary
- Police seized over 1.5 kilograms of processed fentanyl.
- Three individuals are facing drug production and trafficking charges.
- This marks the first time fentanyl production charges have been laid in Regina.
Regina police announced significant charges against three individuals involved in a sophisticated fentanyl production and trafficking operation. The investigation, spanning three months, focused on a network operating between Regina and British Columbia.
During a search of a Regina residence, officers discovered approximately 1.5 kilograms of processed fentanyl. They also seized over 80 grams of pure fentanyl, along with chemicals used for manufacturing the drug for street distribution. Authorities estimate that the seized pure fentanyl could have yielded three to five kilograms of street drugs.
Evan Silzer, 33, of Regina, and Matthew Yohana, 20, from Richmound, British Columbia, face multiple charges, including production of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Both appeared in court on Tuesday.
A Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for Cassidy Arsenault, 20, of Burnaby, British Columbia. She is wanted for charges related to transporting substances for drug production and trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Superintendent Kelly Trithart highlighted the significance of this bust, stating it is the first time fentanyl production charges have been laid in Regina. Previously, the focus was on drugs being supplied to the city, but this operation involved the actual manufacturing of the product locally. Police believe the investigation is ongoing and may result in further charges.
