19 Feb
Summary
- Rapist posed as a woman on WhatsApp to gain victim's trust.
- He threatened to make assault footage viral if reported.
- Police suspect he may have assaulted many other women.

Gurwinder Singh, 37, has been convicted of multiple sexual offenses, including rape and attempted rape, after a harrowing encounter in a Paddington hotel. Singh initially contacted his victim via WhatsApp, impersonating a woman to build trust, before meeting her to discuss a fictitious job assisting an injured sportsman. He later revealed himself as the perpetrator, assaulting the woman after she refused his advances.
Chillingly, Singh attempted to silence his victim by threatening to make a recording of the assault go viral if she alerted authorities. Despite this, the woman reported the incident to the Metropolitan Police the following day, leading to Singh's arrest and conviction at Southwark Crown Court this week. He is scheduled for sentencing on April 15.
Detectives suspect Singh may have targeted numerous other women and are appealing for anyone who has had contact with him, particularly within the Indian community in Hayes or Southall, to come forward. Investigations revealed Singh booked hotel rooms at the same location over 100 times between December 2024 and August 2025, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior. Any information can be reported to police on 101, referencing 3916/16FEB26.
