In a tragic turn of events in Azamgarh, a rape survivor was allegedly poisoned by the accused, who was out on bail. This horrifying incident transpired just before the scheduled final hearing at a Pocso court.
The accused, identified as Dileep Kumar, 32, was apprehended near Baramdapur Puliya Mandir. Police reported that Kumar allegedly administered poison to the rape survivor by mixing it into her cold drink. The survivor, who is now 18 years old, was allegedly raped by Kumar in 2023 when she was 16. A case was promptly registered under various sections of the IPC and the Pocso Act, with a chargesheet filed in the same year.
Kumar had secured bail approximately three months after the case's registration. The trial had proceeded through several hearings and was reportedly nearing its conclusion. The final hearing was scheduled for Friday, immediately following the Holi holidays. The victim's father had reported her missing since Wednesday night, and she was discovered dumped in front of their residence early Thursday morning, succumbing to her injuries shortly thereafter. Authorities recovered a cold drink bottle and a poison bottle from the accused's possession, fueling suspicions of foul play. The body has been sent for postmortem examination.
