As the Dhanteras festival approaches, jewelers in Ranchi are ramping up security measures to safeguard their shops and customers from potential theft and snatching incidents. The expected surge in footfall during this auspicious occasion of wealth and prosperity has raised concerns among traders, prompting them to take extra precautions.
Jewelers have stepped up vigilance by installing additional CCTV cameras, hiring private security guards, and coordinating with the local police to prevent any untoward incidents. Prem Burman, the owner of a jewelry store in Harmu, stated that they have doubled their security personnel and installed surveillance cameras both inside and outside the showroom to address the issue.
In recent years, several incidents of theft and pickpocketing have been reported from various parts of the city during the festive shopping season, making traders extra cautious this time. Shop owners have also been advised to keep their cash counters secure and avoid displaying excessive jewelry at once.
The Ranchi police have also intensified patrolling in busy market areas and around jewelry shops to deter any criminal activities. Ranchi (city) SP, Paras Rana, emphasized the importance of robust CCTV installations to help identify and apprehend any miscreants if an incident occurs.
