In Rajkot, a case was registered against a wife, her parents, and relatives for allegedly abetting the suicide of her husband, a 29-year-old construction businessman. The victim, Parth Pitroda, was found hanged at his residence on July 20, 2026. His sister initiated the First Information Report (FIR) following the discovery.
The FIR names the widow, Janki Kareliya, her father Bipin Kareliya, mother Kapila Kareliya, and other relatives. The complaint states that after their 2018 marriage, disputes arose, with allegations of severe restrictions and character assassination against Parth. He reportedly suspected his wife of an extramarital affair.
Janki had left her marital home in October 2024 to reside with her parents and filed for divorce in July 2025. The victim's family alleges he faced continuous pressure to consent to the divorce during legal proceedings. On July 17, 2026, Parth hinted at his suicidal intentions to his sister.
Authorities found a suicide note on Parth's body during the postmortem. The note detailed prolonged mental harassment and threats from his wife and her family, demanding he agree to the divorce. The police investigation into the abetment of suicide charges is ongoing.
