RPSC Sub-Inspector Exam Scrapped Amidst Massive Scandal
8 May
Summary
- Rajasthan police SI recruitment 2021 was cancelled by RPSC.
- Nearly Rs 51 crore paid as salaries to 746 selected candidates.
- Candidates with criminal ties allegedly secured 859 posts.

The Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) has officially cancelled the controversial 2021 sub-inspector recruitment exam. This decision follows extensive investigations into a scandal that jeopardized the state's law-and-order machinery. The cancellation brings an end to nearly two years of uncertainty and mounting financial costs for the state government.
Investigators had warned that failing to scrap the recruitment would empower organized criminal gangs. The 2021 exam allegedly facilitated the selection of individuals connected to criminals, including those accused in murder cases. The recruitment was for 859 posts, with 824 candidates joining service after training.
Significant public funds were expended on the examination process, training, and salaries. Nearly Rs 51 crore was paid to 746 selected candidates. The state government could have potentially avoided substantial damage and financial burdens if a decisive action was taken earlier when irregularities first surfaced.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) acknowledged that identifying all candidates who may have gained through unfair means, such as dummy candidates or leaked papers, would be nearly impossible. The probe also uncovered alleged irregularities involving a former RPSC member, whose children were among the top scorers.
