A significant financial fraud has been exposed within Rajasthan's Government Health Scheme (RGHS), leading to alleged losses of crores of rupees for the state exchequer. Authorities have arrested two doctors and a private lab operator in connection with the scam. The scheme, designed to provide free healthcare, was reportedly exploited through a nexus between medical professionals and lab operators.
Investigations revealed that accused doctors allegedly prescribed unnecessary diagnostic tests, such as MRIs, even without patient examination. They are also accused of preparing fake reports and manipulating billing information to claim reimbursements. Some instances involved billing normal MRIs as 'contrast MRIs' or generating multiple reports for a single test to increase claims.
Further details indicate that prescriptions were issued on dates when doctors were absent, and report dates were altered to facilitate fraudulent claims. In one case, a report date was changed to secure payment, even though the patient was not present. Referrals from private doctors were also reportedly altered to appear as if issued by government doctors to make them eligible for reimbursement.
