Summary
- An RPF officer was arrested for running a tatkal ticket racket.
- The racket involved selling tickets for remote stations at inflated prices.
- The officer allegedly earned ₹10,000-15,000 daily from the scam.
A tatkal ticket racket has been busted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Bareilly, leading to the arrest of a chief commercial-cum-reservation supervisor. The arrested official, Shailendra Dubey, who was posted at Pitambarpur station, is accused of operating the scam in league with a tout based in Mumbai.
The ongoing investigation revealed that the racket primarily targeted tatkal bookings for less common destinations, including Cooch Behar and Darbhanga. The alleged mastermind, Ravindra Sahu from Mumbai, is currently absconding. Sahu reportedly paid Dubey ₹5,000-7,000 per ticket and used his wife's debit card for purchases.
Dubey was apprehended while issuing tickets, uncovering his involvement in selling two to three tatkal tickets per shift. He admitted to illegally earning approximately ₹10,000-15,000 daily. Passengers using this illicit service were charged an additional ₹500-1,000 per ticket.
RPF officials confiscated three tatkal tickets valued at ₹20,455, a high-end mobile phone, and a debit card as evidence. An FIR has been registered against Dubey under Section 143 of the Railways Act.
