A man has received a suspended prison sentence for sending racially abusive messages to England footballer Jess Carter via social media. The 60-year-old offender, Nigel Dewale, posted the derogatory comments on Carter's TikTok account during the Women's Euro 2025 tournament. Dewale's messages included racist slurs and harmful stereotypes, referencing people with brown skin as 'murderers' and 'groomers'. He pleaded guilty to sending a malicious communication. Appearing at Blackburn Magistrates' Court, Dewale was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to complete 10 days of community work and pay a £239 fine. Additionally, he admitted to possessing an offensive weapon, an extendable baton, found in his possession in February.
