2 Jul
Summary
- Race winner's laptop with inspirational talks was stolen from car.
- Theft occurred in Cardiff while the winner was on a school tour.
- This is the third theft incident in the past two months.
Alfie Watts, winner of Race Across the World, expressed significant frustration after his car was broken into and his laptop stolen while he was visiting schools. The 22-year-old had parked his vehicle for a short period in Howard Place, Cardiff, when a window was smashed and his laptop, containing presentations on positivity and mental health, was taken.
This incident is particularly disheartening for Watts, as it marks the third theft he has experienced in the last two months. Despite this setback, the material on his stolen laptop was safely backed up online, ensuring that his scheduled talks for the day, including one at Mount Stuart Primary School, could proceed as planned. Watts shared his experience with his large social media following, noting the police's limited ability to pursue the case due to a lack of suspects.
Watts, who previously traveled over 9,300 miles across eastern Asia to win his series, is currently on a tour of 35 schools. He aims to inspire young people with messages of resilience and self-belief. This event in Cardiff follows a recent mobile phone theft in London and a laptop stolen in Santiago, Chile, two months prior. He recently raised £50,000 for the charity Young Minds.
