Female Muslim police officers now have enhanced safety with a newly produced hijab featuring an innovative magnetic quick-release system. Researchers from De Montfort University, in collaboration with Leicestershire Police, developed the headwear to address the critical need for officer safety and modesty.
The design allows the lower section of the hijab to detach instantly if subjected to a sudden pull, thereby eliminating the risk of strangulation during confrontations. This advancement ensures officers can maintain their dignity and safety while on duty. The project, named the Blue Light Hijab, represents three years of dedicated research and development.
This protective headwear has already garnered interest beyond law enforcement, with inquiries from NHS trusts and other sectors. Officer Seher Nas shared her pride and empowerment, noting the comfort and security the new hijab provides, potentially inspiring more Muslim women to join the police force.
