In Agra, a court has sentenced a 45-year-old individual operating as a quack to seven years of rigorous imprisonment. This conviction stems from an incident in October 2016, where a 55-year-old farmer died following treatment at an unauthorized clinic. The farmer, Vinod Kumar, had sought care for severe chest and abdominal pain.
During the investigation, it was determined that the clinic operator, Pratap Singh, possessed no recognized medical qualifications. He administered injections to the farmer, whose condition rapidly deteriorated, resulting in his death shortly thereafter. The court found Singh guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and cheating by impersonation.
Additional sessions judge imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on Singh. It was directed that 80% of the collected fine would be paid to the victim's widow, Geeta Devi, as compensation. The case highlights the dangers of unlicensed medical practice and its severe consequences.
