21 Oct
Summary
- Two inmates escaped from Puzhal Central Prison in separate incidents.
- One escapee is a Nepali national arrested for theft; the other is a POCSO convict.
- Authorities have launched a departmental inquiry into security lapses at the prison.

Two inmates have managed to escape from the high-security Puzhal Central Prison in two distinct incidents, prompting a swift police investigation. The first escapee, identified as 21-year-old Nepali national Sudeep Bogati, was lodged in the foreign nationals' block. Bogati, arrested on August 16 for a theft case, was discovered missing during the routine evening roll call on Tuesday.
In a separate incident early Wednesday morning, Suresh, a 41-year-old convict serving time under the POCSO Act since 2021, also escaped. Due to his good conduct, Suresh had been assigned daily duties at the prison bazaar. He reportedly slipped away around 7 am amidst a moment of distraction.
Puzhal police have registered cases for both escapes and have formed special teams to apprehend the missing individuals. Top prison authorities are initiating a departmental inquiry to thoroughly investigate the security lapses that allowed these back-to-back escapes from the heavily guarded facility.
